Show Notes

Crossing Cultures (Opening) – Sandra Ingerman shares some of the experiences that led her away from a conventional American lifestyle and toward the world of shamanic practice.

Shamanic Journeying (7:55) – Nick and Sandra talk about the history of shamanic practice and how invoking altered states of consciousness can transform our ordinary state of consciousness. Sandra describes the typical experiences and encounters while in altered states of consciousness.

“Shamans go into this altered state of consciousness and go into the unseen worlds where there is a wealth of what we call ‘helping compassionate spirits.’ These power animals, guardian spirits and mythic figures are all waiting to share a different perspective on life. They have this different perspective on life that they are trying to share. They have great compassion for us and they are trying to lead us to a place of higher evolution and personal health.” – Sandra Ingerman

Bringing the Sacred In (16:55) – How does a typical Westerner connect to these practices when they don’t have the resources or access to indigenous shamanic practitioners? Sandra talks about practicing shamanism in the West and touches on the difference between practicing shamanism and being a shaman.

“To actually call yourself a shaman is seen as bad luck in indigenous cultures because it is your community that calls you a shaman. It is a destiny, not a thought of, ‘I think I might become a shaman.’ You will know when you are called, there is no confusion about it.” – Sandra Ingerman

What Guides You? (28:10) – If we are entering into the spirit world with shamanic practice, what exactly are the spirits that inhabit these realms? Nick and Sandra talk about the entities we interact with in altered states of consciousness and discuss different theories behind what they are exactly.
