Sharon Salzberg at Kripalu LOVINGKINDNESS RETREAT with Stephen Cope @ Kripalu Center For Yoga & Health
Oct 21 – Oct 23 all-day
Sharon Salzberg at Kripalu LOVINGKINDNESS RETREAT with Stephen Cope @ Kripalu Center For Yoga & Health

Join renowned teachers Sharon Salzberg and Stephen Cope for a weekend of loving-kindness practice (metta meditation) and yoga. The Buddhist and yoga traditions both hold that it is possible to systematically cultivate feelings of loving-kindness, or what yoga philosophy refers to as “friendliness toward all beings.” These two great traditions each developed practices designed to promote the experiences of inner balance, happiness, and equanimity, as well as compassion (karuna) and sympathetic joy (mudita).

Experience on-the-mat yoga practice and sitting meditation that foster loving-kindness, along with an understanding of the importance of metta and yoga in the overall vision of the contemplative traditions. Sharon and Stephen cultivate a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, welcoming people at all levels of yoga and meditation experience, including beginners.

Sharon Salzberg at Garrison REAL LOVE RETREAT with Ethan Nichtern @ Garrison Institute

Love and Relationship. It’s a topic that Buddhist teachings often speak of, yet in the modern culture we are often left to our own devices to put our meditative tools to the test in friendship, romantic partnership, difficult family dynamics, and work life. Join friends and colleagues, Sharon Salzberg and Ethan Nichtern for a weekend retreat exploring the many aspect of Real Love.

How do we navigate the complexities of our own needs and desires with the needs of others? Can we really love someone we don’t agree with? What skills do we have to face the inevitable disappointments in relationship? Both Sharon and Ethan offer unique insight from a lifetime of meditation experience – and both are currently writing their next books on the topic of love! Join them for a transformational weekend that will change the way you think about love. Weekend includes formal guided meditation, contemplation, and dialogue.

Ethan Nichtern is a Shastri, a senior teacher, in the Shambhala tradition. He is a senior teacher in residence for the NY Shambhala community. He is the author of several books. His most recent, The Road Home: A Contemporary Exploration of the Buddhist Path (FSG) made several major lists of the Best Books of 2015. He is also the founder and former director of The Interdependence Project, an organization dedicated to Buddhist-inspired meditation and psychology, transformational activism, mindful arts, and meaningful media. Sharon Salzberg at Mind & Life Institute CONTEMPLATIVE STUDIES SYMPOSIUM @ Mind and Life Institute
Nov 10 – Nov 13 all-day
Sharon Salzberg at Mind & Life Institute CONTEMPLATIVE STUDIES SYMPOSIUM @ Mind and Life Institute

Join us for four exciting days as we gather the most innovative thought leaders and present their ground breaking research in neuroscience, psychology, clinical science, the humanities, philosophy, and education – all with the goal of advancing our understanding of the mind, reducing human suffering, and enhancing our well-being.

The Mind & Life Institute’s International Symposium seeks to encourage and help shape a cohesive interdisciplinary field of contemplative studies in which basic and applied science, scholarship, education, the arts, and contemplative traditions collaboratively develop an integrated way of knowing. The Mind & Life Institute’s International Symposium for Contemplative Studies brings together scientists, scholars, artists, and contemplatives to explore clinical science, philosophy, humanities, education, economics, the arts, and other domains. These distinct, though overlapping, fields of research and scholarship focus on advancing our understanding of the human mind and how training the mind through contemplative practices can lead to valuable insights that promote a reduction in suffering, enhanced health and cognitive/emotional functioning, and increased social harmony. It has become clear that a multidisciplinary integrative approach is critical for understanding the mind and its effects on health, ethical behavior, and society at large.
