Awakening from the Grip of Fear

Raghu welcomes Tara to the show, and they discuss her path to mindfulness and spirituality. Raghu brings up Tara’s latest book, Radical Compassion, and how her RAIN practice can help everyone in awakening from the grip of fear that is currently seizing the world.

“Unprocessed fear is what leads us to violence. We need to be able to process fear both in our body-minds with each other and also on a societal level.” – Tara Brach

RAIN on Blame (20:48)

Tara explores using the practice of RAIN on judgment and blame, and tracing the origin of these feelings in an open way. She and Raghu talk about courage, and how our longing to wake up is stronger than our longing to stay safe. Tara discusses nurturing, and how we can work with it to help customize our path to awareness.

“You can start where you are, you can start with the judgment. And you can find embedded in it, deep down, is a caring. But it kind of got twerked by our fears, and so it’s left in an ego spacesuit spin. You can come out of that, and it does require coming into the body and feeling the vulnerability that we were running from.” – Tara Brach

The Trance of Unworthiness (38:02)

RAIN can also be used when we’re caught in a sense of personal deficiency. Tara explores how we can shed that core belief that there’s something wrong with ourselves. She and Raghu discuss the importance of trust on the spiritual path. Tara closes the show with a wonderful RAIN meditation.

“In the moments that you really trust the purity of your heart, you really trust the wisdom and awareness that’s living through you, there’s no other, there’s nothing outside you, you are that field of awareness. Trust frees us.” – Tara Brach
