Melanie Moser - Shakti Hour - Ep. 8 - Mirabai Starr

Mirabai Starr visits the Shakti Hour podcast to talk about the transformative power of heartbreak and loss.

Show Notes

Fire in the Heart (Opening) – Mirabai shares the origin of her name. Melanie and Mirabai talk about the 16th-century poet for whom Mirabai Starr is named and the inspiration that brings her.

“That connection with her energy, the energy of Mirabai, so perfectly resonated with my soul then and still. The devotional quality for sure; the artistic impulse; the expression of word and song that so much matches my being, but more than that there is something about what she calls me to be. She brings me back again, which I think is the way of the feminine.” – Mirabai Starr

Thinning of the Veil (10:00) – Tragedy has a way of offering us the opportunity for incredible spiritual growth. Mirabai talks about how experiencing the loss of loved ones has connected her to deeper and more sacred states.

“Looking back, I felt that I was abiding with him in this numinous space. So by the time he died, that space was very real for me and continued to be available. Each subsequent death, and I have had an incarnation marked by an unusual number of deaths, gave me access to that holy ground that death can invite us into. Although I have had many tragedies, each one has been an opportunity to make my home in this sacred space somehow.” – Mirabai Starr

Caravan of No Despair (20:05) – Melanie and Mirabai discuss what it means to be of service and how to find the capacity to rise to the occasion.

“Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again, come, come.” – Rumi

Transformation (29:20) – Mirabai talks about showing up for the transformational experience that loss and tragedy bring to our lives.

“Transformation doesn’t necessarily require volition, often our will is an obstacle to transformation.” – Mirabai Starr

Embracing it All (40:00) – Just as we have a mindfulness practice, there is a practice of opening the heart, allowing everything in and learning to embrace it all. Mirabai and Melanie discuss this practice of “heartfulness” and how it brings us into a higher state.
