REGISTER HEREIn the spirit of Wisdom Sharing, this retreat–for all ages, gender, races, faiths and political affiliations–focuses on the undeniable importance of building bridges across our differences. Its healing approach is designed to refresh our vision for what we as citizens of the United States might generate through respectful dialogues, deeper listening and creative problem solving. Here in the sacred space of its high-desert refuge, Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center promises a new kind of civic education that encourages citizens to acknowledge the complexities and even brokenness in our cherished system and yet remain fully engaged.
This transformative event is for those who value the right to vote, to speak out and to stand up for others, especially the marginalized and those often not heard. It is for all who seek an alternative to whatever makes us fearful, angry and divided. “We the People” will explore how our greatest strengths arise from our diversity, willingness to compromise, capacity to love, and respect for all.
This restorative gathering is for those who recognize that full engagement requires dedicated and intentional time to nourish our souls as we gain new skills and perspective. The wide open vistas and warm hospitality of Ghost Ranch offer such a sanctuary where we will create an alternative oasis of calm, thoughtfulness, compassion and laughter around the 2016 election.
The experiential sessions include dynamic morning plenary sessions, workshops, dialogue circles, spiritual practices, yoga, hiking, private reflection and contemplative meditation/prayer.

Love and Relationship. It’s a topic that Buddhist teachings often speak of, yet in the modern culture we are often left to our own devices to put our meditative tools to the test in friendship, romantic partnership, difficult family dynamics, and work life. Join friends and colleagues Sharon Salzberg and Ethan Nichtern for a lively evening of discussion, practice and teaching on this ever-relevant topic!
How do we navigate the complexities of our own needs and desires with the needs of others? Can we really love someone we don’t agree with? What skills do we have to face the inevitable disappointments in relationship? Both Sharon and Ethan offer unique insight from a lifetime of meditation experience – and both are currently writing their next books on the topic of love!
This open house is a great introduction to the Shambhala Buddhist teachings and an opportunity to connect with other practitioners. It features meditation practice, a talk by one of our senior teachers, discussion, and a reception. Meditation instruction is also provided.
The dharma gathering is an opportunity to meditate in a supportive group setting, to learn about how to apply the principles of meditation to everyday life, and to meet and mingle with fellow practitioners. Bring your friends!
Sharon returns to Prema Yoga in Brooklyn, NY (in their new location) for an evening workshop on Equanimity. Equanimity can be described as a balance of the mind, a spacious stillness that allows us to accept things as they are, avoiding apathy and indifference on the one hand and driven reactivity on the other. The opening of mind that equanimity brings is the basis for the emergence of qualities such as kindheartedness and generosity. Teaching on equanimity is traditionally offered with practices that enrich compassion, lovingkindness and joy in the happiness of others. Together, these practices lead to the development of concentration, fearlessness, happiness and a greater ability to love. As Sharon introduces us to these teachings, she will support our own experience of practice through direct instruction and guided meditations. Throughout the workshop, there will be opportunities for questions and discussion. This workshop is suitable for both new and experienced meditators.
Please note Prema Yoga’s new location at 498 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.
Karuna is hosting Krishna Das for a kirtan concert on Friday, Sept. 16 at First Churches in Northampton. Krishna Das is the most widely known kirtan wallah in the west today. Kirtan is a form of devotion which involves repeatedly chanting the names of God using simple mantras and melodies that were shaped in India thousands of years ago. All are welcome.
