Jack Kornfield is a prominent figure in modern mindfulness, renowned for his compassionate teachings that illuminate the path from self-interest and self-judgment toward genuine happiness. He trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, India, and Burma, which shaped his lifelong mission to share the benefits of meditation with a global audience.
After graduating from Dartmouth College in Asian Studies in 1967, Jack Kornfield joined the Peace Corps and worked on tropical medicine teams along the Mekong River valley. During his time abroad, he met and studied under esteemed Buddhist masters, including Ven. Ajahn Chah and Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw. This deep immersion in Buddhist monastic life laid the foundation for his future teachings.
Upon returning to the United States, Jack Kornfield co-founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, alongside fellow teachers Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein. He later helped establish the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre, California. Furthermore, his teachings have reached universities, spiritual centers, and international conferences worldwide. He has led meetings with the Dalai Lama and collaborated closely with many respected thought leaders of our time.
In addition to his extensive spiritual background, Jack Kornfield holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. He is also a devoted father and an active advocate for mindfulness. Indeed, his ability to combine Buddhist principles with modern insights has enriched countless lives.
Jack Kornfield has authored numerous books that have been translated into 20 languages, selling over a million copies. His works include A Wise Heart: A Guide to the Universal Teachings of Buddhist Psychology, A Path with Heart, After the Ecstasy, the Laundry, Teachings of the Buddha, Seeking the Heart of Wisdom, Living Dharma, A Still Forest Pool, Stories of the Spirit, Stories of the Heart, Buddha’s Little Instruction Book, The Art of Forgiveness, Lovingkindness and Peace, and Bringing Home the Dharma: Awakening Right Where You Are.
