Show Notes

Born on the Path (Opening) – Deva Premal was brought into this life to the chanting of the Gayatri mantra. Mantra and chanting were a natural ingredient in her early life. Finding her Guru at the age of eleven, Deva pursued her own spiritual path at a young age. Deva’s spiritual path has been as straight as an arrow and accepted with ease.

All Encompassing Love (8:30) – Melanie and Deva discus Deva’s beautiful relationship with her life partner, Miten, and how it has changed her relationship to spirit. She discusses life, working on the road together and their uncanny bond. Her partnership with Miten all comes down to love, which is the essence of Deva’s life and work.

Balance and Equality (14:20) – Deva shares insight on gender roles and finding balance with our inner masculine and feminine. She explores the ephemeral nature of the feminine essence.

Finding Her Voice (28:10) – Even as a singer with some classical training, Deva has continued to evolve her voice through the years. She discusses her path to combining her natural gifted voice with the power of mantra.

“I am still not comfortable calling myself a singer/musician. I feel much better as somebody that brings people together and gives them a reason to come together, and maybe channel the energy of so many people into a way that we can create something beautiful.”

Follow Your Joy (34:40) – Melanie asks what advice Deva Premal has to give to women and girls on the spiritual path. Deva’s word is to follow your joy and make space in life for what brings you joy. She discusses her practice of Karma Yoga makes space in her life.

“I think that the best sign is what brings you joy. When you do that, what brings you joy, then you are in the right place. You are doing the right thing and you are in the moment.”
