Faith, Focus, and Forgiveness

Krishna Das opens with some chanting. He answers questions about keeping faith, how much focus we need when chanting, getting past judgments, and finding forgiveness. Krishna Das talks about not judging ourselves for judging ourselves (for judging ourselves) and shares some advice from the Dalai Lama concerning forgiveness.

“One does not move back into faith, one moves forward into whatever is there. Don’t think of faith as blind belief… It’s not even healthy to have blind faith. When real faith arises in your heart through your own experiences in life, it’s very different. You don’t have to pretend to believe, you don’t have to try to believe. If you’re trying to believe, it means you’re trying to actually be something you’re not, and that’s a waste of time. Believe me, I know.” – Krishna Das

Discipline on the Spiritual Path

Krishna Das replies to questions about maintaining discipline on the spiritual path, whether it’s really possible to love unconditionally all the time, and why we feel so much pain if our true nature is love. He talks about how discipline on the spiritual path comes when we recognize that we’re suffering and want to become free.

“Your true nature already is love. You don’t have to be busy loving, you are love, we are love. That’s our true nature when we’re finished being stuck and glued to our thoughts and emotions and our stories, and our karmic experiences.” – Krishna Das

Footprints to Follow

Krishna Das takes us home with some more chanting.

“If we know anything about a path at all – if we know that there might be a way to live in this world in a good way, with an open heart and without fear – if we know about that, it’s only because of the great beings that have gone before us. Out of their love, out of their kindness, they left some footprints for others to follow. So, in the same way that they wish for us… we wish that all beings everywhere, all of us, be safe, be happy, that all of us have good health and enough to eat. And may we all live in peace and that ease of heart… with whatever comes to us in life.” – Krishna Das
