This episode of Pilgrim Heart is from Krishna Das’ Hanging in the Heart Space session on February 18th, 2021. Join Krishna Das in virtual Satsang every Thursday at 4 pm PST for the live recordings of Hanging in the Heart Space – featuring music, conversation, & live Q&A with Krishna Das.

Maya and Monkey Gods

Krishna Das tackles the first batch of questions rolling into the Heart Space, including several on his experiences in India and about the monkey god, Hanuman. He shares his thoughts on Shirdi Sai Baba, Hanuman’s celibacy, and letting go of the stories we tell ourselves. Krishna Das explores the Hindu concept of Maya, or illusion, like we’re seeing our own projections.

“Maya is not somewhere else, it’s right there where you are.” – Krishna Das

A Big Job (19:55)

In the second batch of questions, Krishna Das takes on small subjects such as karma, regret, desire, forgiveness, and judgment. He talks about how Buddhism has the antidotes for the poison of our own negative thoughts and emotions, why the repetition of the Name matters the most in chanting, and why we should never throw anyone out of our hearts.

“If you try to reshape yourself into some mold that you think is more spiritual, you’re just gonna get yourself screwed up more than you already are. Be in the world, be in a good way, try to become a good human being, care about other people, think about other people, don’t think about yourself all the time. That’s a big job.” – Krishna Das

Listen to the Name (39:30)

Krishna Das closes out this session with a little chanting. Just let go of everything.

“When we sit down to sing… let everything go. Listen to the name. Listen to the sound that you are singing. When you notice that you’re not paying attention, pay attention.” – Krishna Das
