Sep 13 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Sharon Salzberg at Shambhala REAL LOVE Dharma Gathering with Ethan Nichtern @ Shambhala Meditation Center Of New York

Love and Relationship. It’s a topic that Buddhist teachings often speak of, yet in the modern culture we are often left to our own devices to put our meditative tools to the test in friendship, romantic partnership, difficult family dynamics, and work life. Join friends and colleagues Sharon Salzberg and Ethan Nichtern for a lively evening of discussion, practice and teaching on this ever-relevant topic!

How do we navigate the complexities of our own needs and desires with the needs of others? Can we really love someone we don’t agree with? What skills do we have to face the inevitable disappointments in relationship? Both Sharon and Ethan offer unique insight from a lifetime of meditation experience – and both are currently writing their next books on the topic of love!

This open house is a great introduction to the Shambhala Buddhist teachings and an opportunity to connect with other practitioners. It features meditation practice, a talk by one of our senior teachers, discussion, and a reception. Meditation instruction is also provided.

The dharma gathering is an opportunity to meditate in a supportive group setting, to learn about how to apply the principles of meditation to everyday life, and to meet and mingle with fellow practitioners. Bring your friends!

Sharon Salzberg: Prema Yoga EQUANIMITY Workshop @ Prema Yoga
Sep 15 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Sharon Salzberg: Prema Yoga EQUANIMITY Workshop @ Prema Yoga

Sharon returns to Prema Yoga in Brooklyn, NY (in their new location) for an evening workshop on Equanimity. Equanimity can be described as a balance of the mind, a spacious stillness that allows us to accept things as they are, avoiding apathy and indifference on the one hand and driven reactivity on the other. The opening of mind that equanimity brings is the basis for the emergence of qualities such as kindheartedness and generosity. Teaching on equanimity is traditionally offered with practices that enrich compassion, lovingkindness and joy in the happiness of others. Together, these practices lead to the development of concentration, fearlessness, happiness and a greater ability to love. As Sharon introduces us to these teachings, she will support our own experience of practice through direct instruction and guided meditations. Throughout the workshop, there will be opportunities for questions and discussion. This workshop is suitable for both new and experienced meditators.

Please note Prema Yoga’s new location at 498 Court Street in Carroll  Gardens, Brooklyn.

Lama Surya Das at Evening Dharma Talk- Raleigh, NC @ Unity Church of the Triangle
Sep 23 all-day
Lama Surya Das at Evening Dharma Talk- Raleigh, NC @ Unity Church of the Triangle

“Befriending Yourself, Befriending the World: Loving Yourself, Loving the World” Love the world by first loving and accepting yourself — these are timeless teachings that are also psychologically astute. Yet genuine self-acceptance can be elusive; relationships are frequently marred by projections about self and other. Helping us to recognize our own and others’ Buddha-full true nature is the heart-essence teaching of Dzogchen, the Natural Great Perfection tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Introducing this naturally inherent wisdom and compassion with positivity and joy, is the life-work of Lama Surya Das. Lama Surya will guide us throughout the evening with liveliness and humor, combining guided meditation and Dharma teachings; there will be ample opportunity for questions. These events are appropriate for those new to spiritual exploration as well as seasoned practitioners.

Lama Surya Das: Evening Dharma Talk- Raleigh, NC @ Unity Church of Raleigh | Raleigh | North Carolina | United States

“Make Me One With Everything: Seeing Through The Illusion of Separation” In these disconnected, plugged-in yet tuned-out times, this unity-yoga of converge-itation, inter-meditative interbeing– which Lama Surya Das calls co-meditation, or inter-meditation—The We Meditation, or We-ditation (not Me-ditation) is a simple joyful path to see thru the illusion of separation and experience meaningful connectedness and the renowned one-taste of tantric Mahamudra and Dzogchen, the Natural Great Perfection. Lama Surya will lead us in practical inter-meditations and tantric exercises, opening portals to oneness in nature, with others, with our higher deepest power, and beyond notions such as distraction and concentration or the conceptual separation between the sacred and the mundane. Chriss Grosso at Recovery Day Ottawa @ City Hall
Sep 24 @ 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
Chriss Grosso at Recovery Day Ottawa @ City Hall

Join with us for the official Recovery Day Ottawa celebration in the National Capital at Ottawa City Hall, on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

On September 24, citizens of Ottawa are gathering to build awareness, challenge societal stigma, and celebrate the role that recovery plays in improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

We envision a world in which recovery from addiction is a common, celebrated reality – a world where all individuals will have access to the support they need when seeking help.

We believe by speaking out as people living in recovery, or as family, friends and supporters of those affected by addiction, we save lives. Through our personal stories and shared experience, we hope to inspire others to join us.

Together, we demonstrate the power and proof of recovery from addiction.
